Pretty in Pink and Perfectly Placed

This closet just needed some sorting and purging — and a few organizing solutions — to make it a closet any girl would be tickled pink to have in her room.

It’s Child Play

Sorting like with like, labelled bins, and assigned shelving makes it so much easier for children to find their toys — and hopefully put them away again!

The Times They Are A-Changin’

Just as our bodies and abilities change over the years, so do our organizing needs. The elderly homeowner always kept bottles in this linen closet up high, out of reach of children — and later grandchildren — but that is no longer a concern for her. So we brought her most used items down within easy reach and her top shelf now houses the linens she changes only twice per year. Due to her vision impairment, we labelled the shelves in print large enough for her to clearly read them. An added bonus? Visitors who help out can quickly locate a home for everything.

Settling In

It can be tiring enough to pack up and move house — but then you have to unpack, too! We helped these homeowners prioritize what belonged in this new space and what did not so they could start fresh (and well organized) in their new home.

The Pampered Pantry

This pantry suffered from family-frenzy syndrome. While there was plenty of room for storage, the lack of allocated space for each food category made it difficult for any family member to figure out where anything went. We sorted like with like, purged any unwanted or stale-dated items, and used baskets and turntables to corral smaller items. Clear labelling of each section ensures that every family member now knows what goes where.

In Black & White

This small home office benefits from plenty of storage options and a crisp black and white palette.

Playtime Fun

Children cannot play with toys if they cannot find them. By sorting out like-with-like toys and containing them in clear boxes, nothing gets lost at the bottom of a toy box. And this great shelving unit allows larger toys to sit out on display so the little ones can quickly find their favourite playthin

Welcome Home

Your main entranceway can be one of the most challenging areas to keep tidy but it is the first thing that visitors (and you!) see when entering your home. Here we came up with some solutions to make sure that everything coming in the door has a convenient home.

Boys’ Night In

This basement had become a dumping ground for unwanted items. A thorough clearing out of unwanted items, the re-arrangement of furniture and a fresh coat of paint has turned this once unused basement from a storage room to a games room.

Storage Made Simple

Storage rooms do not have to be unsightly. With careful purging, sorting and organizing (and some surplus blinds) we were able to make this small storage room more efficient and appealing.

Family-Friendly Room

This family room was overflowing with toys, crafts and DVDs with no place to really call home. We sorted and said good-bye to rarely-used toys and found a home for the remaining items behind the closed doors of the emptied out built-ins. Now the fireplace is the focal point of the room, not the clutter.

A Playful Basement

Despite their little bodies, children and their things can take up a lot of room! We purged the unused and outgrown toys, games and puzzles that were in this basement and created a more welcoming space for relaxing and playing board games. We utilized the space under the stairs to tuck the children’s treasured toys and in-season sports equipment into two separate areas — his and hers — and then labelled the clear boxes so items can be easily accessed. In using the niche under the stairs for storage, the homeowners can opt to conceal the toy shelves with a curtain or decorative screen.
